Starting in August 2023, a new kind of learning environment has been built in Järvenpää's Spesia. Spesia DigiLab, which is open to all students, makes it possible to practice data skills and familiarize yourself with the digital technologies of working life, regardless of the fields of study. Workshops, study courses and internships are ways to increase students' interest in technologies and promote their data skills now and in the future. The key principles of DigiLab's operation are equality, training future skills, ecology and invention-oriented pedagogy. How do these show up in practice? DigiLab is located next to the Järvenpää campus library. The central location and cooperation with the library improve the accessibility of the activities. You can visit DigiLab to hang out, experiment, research and learn completely new things. Learning takes place at the edge of creating something new (invention-oriented pedagogy) and you can develop your own strengths or interests safely in a supportive atmosphere. Future skills (cooperation, communication, creativity, critical thinking) are honed as if by themselves in various project learning implementations. Being ecological in DigiLab means that cooperation opportunities and internal customers that can be identified from the surrounding environment are effectively utilized. As competence and skills accumulate, partnerships are also sought outside the educational institution. The activity lives and develops dynamically but student-oriented. In DigiLab, you can already familiarize yourself with various technologies, such as 3D modeling and 3D printing, robotics, programming, virtual reality, augmented reality and metaverse design. In the 2024 semester pilot, DigiLab has had several interns and learners from the training classes. What have the students thought of working? Here is the student's comment: "DigiLab takes the students' many special needs very well into account. The atmosphere is encouraging and motivates to try when others are also doing their jobs diligently".
